Hope and Security

God has given me such a sense of hope and security in Him today. It doesn't matter what storms blow through, what emotional roller coasters I ride on, what situations in life happen, what my relationships look like--He has made me secure in Him. Yesterday and today I read through 1 Peter--a book full of hope. We have hope in Him! He has called us to a living hope through the resurrection of Christ! He protects us by His power through faith, that same power that raised Christ from the dead! No wonder Peter can say in 1:9 that we can "greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory". We can "fix our hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ" (1:13b). Then again, "your faith and hope are in God" (1:21).

Talking about security: "And coming to Him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is choice and precious in the sight of God..." (2:4). That's how God sees me? Choice and precious?! I never noticed this verse before today: "For both He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from one Father; for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren (Heb 2:11)" He's not ashamed of me?! He's not ashamed to call me His sister?! Wow.

My hope and security are in Him. Why? Because He is sovereign and because He always keeps His promises. His purposes are unchangeable. It is impossible for Him to lie. And He has set before me His hope, which is an anchor of my soul (Heb 6:17-19). His hope really is an anchor of the soul. In the midst of storms, trials, lack of understanding, confusion, pain, etc., His hope is there as a light at the end of the tunnel. I can cling to Him and to that hope He has given me to ground me in the storm, much like an anchor does for a ship in the midst of a storm. He has been the One who grounds me. He has been my anchor. He has been my hope and my security. He has been the One who's always there, who's always holding me, who's always speaking truth into my life just where and when I need it, who's pulled me out of the pits of emotion and deception I dig for myself. He is everything! And I know that's cliche, but it's so true!

God, may you accomplish your unchangeable purposes in this storm. Thank you for being so near to me, for grounding me, for comforting me, and for giving me such an overwhelming hope and security in you! Work all of this for your glory. Purify and sanctify me in the process, again, for your glory.

Some lyrics from Wings of the Morning by Caedmon's Call:

On the wings of the morning

Hope is rising
In the darkest night
Your love and light prevail
We will rise on the wings of the morning
Though we hide, hide in the shadows of the night
There is hope, hope in the hands that have made us
And are holding us tight...
